LeSean McCoy didn’t hold back his feelings toward Philadelphia Eagles coach Chip Kelly when he was traded to the Buffalo Bills. In May, McCoy noted that his relationship with Kelly was ‘never really great.’ The running back went so far as to say that Kelly needed full control, and then opined that the coach’s decisions were racially fueled.
“You see how fast he got rid of all the good players. Especially all the good black players. He got rid of them the fastest. That’s the truth. There’s a reason,” McCoy said.
On Thursday, the Eagles opened their OTAs to the media and Kelly was asked about McCoy’s comments, vehemently disagreeing with his former player’s characterization.
“I’ve got great respect for LeSean, however in that situation, I think he’s wrong,” Kelly said. “I’ve talked to his agent and told him I’d to talk to him at some point in time.”
Despite his desire to speak with McCoy, Kelly says he’s called twice and was rejected both times. Kelly added that he wasn’t concerned with the way the public might perceive his decisions.
“I’m not governed by fear of what other people say. I understand what my beliefs are. You start chasing perception, you’ve got a long life ahead of you.”
The latter half of that quote is also true for anyone who signs Tim Tebow.
