Miley Cyrus New Song: ‘Nightmare’

Miley Cyrus certainly has been keeping busy these days, and now we can add a new song to her list of current achievements.

After founding the Happy Hippie Foundation (a nonprofit organization to “rally young people to fight injustice facing homeless youth, LGBT youth and other vulnerable populations”) and then getting naked and rolling around in body paint for a magazine shoot, Cyrus has recorded an upbeat and buzzy new track called “Nightmare,” which has sprung quite the Internet leak today (June 9).

“Nightmare” is a simmering pop tune that shares a bit of DNA with Kelly Clarkson‘s “Since U Been Gone,” down to the sparse guitar opening. A tense and dramatic bridge builds up to an explosive, EDM-powered chorus that doubles as the song’s drop.

There’s a moody breakdown violin break before the chorus roars around again, this time even bigger with more Miley voices piled on for full effect.

“Nightmare” sounds destined for non-stop radio airplay and a rocket ride to the top of the charts—once it’s officially released. Still just being bandied about on the Internet, Cyrus’ musical return can be heard with the help of a little online sleuthing or when her label, RCA Records, can rush-release it into the world legitimately.

It may be the first song off her upcoming new album, the followup to Bangerz.
